On the Way to Leo at CCH Naucalpan
On February 25th, as part of the activities program of the seventh conference for gender equality at the College of Sciences and Humanities Naucalpan, UNAM, a very special screening of the documentary “On the Way to Leo” took place. It was very exciting to know that the room was packed with students and young people interested in seeing this film work that addresses the story of a mother who embraces the transition of her son Leo. It also fills our hearts to know that they were very moved at the end of the screening and were reflecting on the emotional implications of the film. We share this beautiful poem that teacher Lefteris sent us regarding “On the Way to Leo”:
WOUND
Your life hurts me, son,
like a freshly opened wound.
They think you’ve detached from me,
just because you were born.
Invisible is the bond:
arrow in my side,
ripe fruit
that doesn’t leave the tree,
tender branch
threatened.
You are weaker than my hand,
more delicate than my eyes,
softer than my lips.
You made me so vulnerable
that I feel fear:
on a gust of wind
your life depends,
whoever brushes you
hurts you,
by your side,
in the warm folds
of your bed,
death sleeps.
And although you are mine
more than my hand,
oh, my most tender hand,
perhaps I won’t know how to defend you

For us it means a lot to continue reaching our audiences in this way. We appreciate the invitation from teacher Lefteris Becerra as well as the entire team at the College of Sciences and Humanities, and of course all the attendees. Without a doubt a screening to remember. #WeKeepOnTheWay
