Sneak Peek “On the Way to Leo” – Senate of the Republic
On Wednesday, March 4th, different actors from the legislative, academic, institutional and civil society spheres gathered at the Elena Poniatowska hall, inside the Senate of the Republic, for the conversation “Freedom begins at school: dialogues on the use of neutral uniforms”, an initiative already approved in different places like Mexico City, which aims to be taken to a national level, to allow girls, boys and children to freely choose what clothing to wear at school (skirt or pants), prioritizing their right to education and free development of personality.
As the mother of a Trans person and documentary filmmaker, I attended by invitation of Congressman Enrique Vives from Movimiento Ciudadano and founder of LGBT Rights México, to the panel “Voices for Freedom” alongside colleagues Jennifer Blanco; general director of Infancias Trans A.C., Silvia Soler, director of the Simone de Beauvoir Leadership Institute, Larissa Rosas, activist graduated from the Autonomous University of Morelos and Tania Pérez, mother of a Trans child.
Before my intervention, the audience present was able to see a sneak peek of “On the Way to Leo”, followed by a personal reflection around the gender roles that we impose from home, without even asking ourselves about other possibilities of existence, which in my case were a lesson in love, patience and accompaniment from my son Leo.
Many thanks to all the attendees, as well as to the people who approached to continue spreading the importance of this documentary film, which aims to be a bridge of dialogue between families and people of diversity. We continue on our way.
